Parents of Pregnant Teens

May Push for Abortion.

They want to protect their daughter from undesirable consequences.
Education: Gina had been raised Christian and pro-life.But when she got pregnant in college, her father insisted on abortion. They felt that Gina would be tied to the baby’s father, who was already failing to support another child, and destined for a life of poverty and trouble if she had the baby. However, after the abortion, Gina became depressed and continued to see the boyfriend in spite of his abuse of her.Counseling eventually brought out Gina’s hurt and anger. The family came to understand that Gina was

staying in the abusive relationship to punish her parents, to punish herself for the abortion, and because the father was her only tie to her child. Her parents came to understand the terrible mistake they had made.A healing program helped her to mourn for her child, accept her own role in the abortion, and begin to forgive her parents. (1) God of course forgave them all.

Parents of pregnant teens need to understand both the reality of their grandchild and the devastating effect that abortion is likely to have on their daughter.Parents of the father should also be involved to support the couple. After the child is born, the grandparents very often do take normal delight in their grandchild, and rejoice that abortion was not chosen.

There is help for teens being coerced to abort by parents at the
Center Against Forced Abortions at 1-866-4-OUT-CRY.

Prayer: Dear Father God, please have mercy on parents of pregnant teens. Help them to accept the situation, see their grandchild as a precious gift in spite of the circumstances, and extend to their children the support they need.Help them to feel your presence and look to you for guidance and strength to do the best they can for the new family.Help parents of both mother and father to encourage the choice for life and to help their children to become responsible parents themselves, or to make an adoption plan, if the birth parents are not ready or able to parent at the current stage of their lives.Help the whole family to be drawn closer to You as they work together on a plan to provide a good home for the child.

Action: Rejoice with your friends who are grandparents, regardless of the circumstances of the pregnancy. Discuss with friends who are parents of teenagers how they might react to a pregnancy. Share your belief in the sanctity of every life, the destructive nature of abortion for the mom, and the help that is available at pregnancy help centers for the whole family. The Option Line is available 24/7 at 800-712-HELP, or online at www.OptionLine.org.
